When you create an account or use ReelMatch, we collect:

• Account information: username, email address, password (stored as a secure hash), and optional display name and profile photo
• Movie ratings: the films you rate and the scores you assign (0–10 scale)
• Reviews and comments: written content you post about films
• Phone number: if you choose to verify your account via SMS
• Import data: ratings imported from third-party services such as Letterboxd, IMDb, or Trakt
• Profile information: bio and any other optional profile details you provide

Information collected automatically

When you use our Service, we automatically collect:

• Usage data: pages viewed, features used, search queries, and interactions with recommendations
• Device information: device type, operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers
• Log data: IP address, access times, and referring URLs
• Push notification tokens: to send you notifications you have opted into

Information from third parties

If you import your ratings from Letterboxd, IMDb, or Trakt, we receive the rating data you choose to import. We do not store your credentials for these services.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the ReelMatch service
• Generate personalized movie recommendations for you and your groups
• Send you verification codes via SMS or email when you request them
• Send push notifications about activity relevant to you (which you may disable at any time)
• Enable social features such as following other users and group recommendations
• Track achievements and streaks within the app
• Respond to your support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service
• Comply with legal obligations

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

Publicly visible information

Your username, display name, profile photo, movie ratings, reviews, and achievement badges are visible to other ReelMatch users by default. You may adjust certain visibility settings in your profile.

Service providers

We share information with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the Service, including:

• Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
• Railway — application hosting
• Twilio — SMS verification services
• The Movie Database (TMDB) — movie metadata and imagery
• JustWatch — streaming availability data

These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only to provide services to us.

Legal requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.

4. SMS Communications

If you provide your phone number, we may send you SMS messages for:

• Account verification codes
• Two-factor authentication codes

Message and data rates may apply. You may opt out of SMS communications at any time by replying STOP to any message or by updating your notification settings in the app. For help, reply HELP or contact us at support@reelmatch.live.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and activity data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.

Aggregated, anonymized data derived from your usage may be retained indefinitely to improve our recommendation algorithms.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export your ratings and reviews data
• Opt out of certain data uses

7. Children's Privacy

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, secure password hashing, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Users

ReelMatch is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
